The camera may not fully capture the color’s elegance, but it’s best appreciated in person. It’s puzzling that Lixiang didn’t offer this color on their L9 and L7 models, as it would likely have been very popular.
Priced attractively, the Pro version of the Lixiang L6 starts at ¥34,500 (roughly $35,000), with the Max configuration priced at ¥38,000 ($38,000). Both configurations share the same powertrain, delivering 405 horsepower with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 5.4 seconds. The vehicle is powered by two electric motors, with all-wheel drive and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine acting as a generator in this sequential hybrid.
In terms of soundproofing, the L6 stands out, offering a noise-insulated cabin on par with much more expensive vehicles. According to company representatives, the sound levels inside the L6 are comparable to German luxury cars, making it the quietest car for its price range. Lixiang, known for focusing on comfort over raw power, ensures the L6 reflects this emphasis on a premium, family-friendly travel experience.
Another notable feature of the L6 Max is that it comes equipped with the same LiDAR sensors and parking automation as the flagship L9 Ultra, despite being nearly half the price. Although this feature wasn’t activated in the test car, the software is expected to deliver the same performance, including autonomous parking capabilities.
Regarding suspension, the L6 has adaptive shock absorbers with CDC technology but lacks air suspension. Despite this, the vehicle’s ride is impressively soft and comfortable. The suspension system offers customizable settings, allowing drivers to choose between soft, standard, or stiff modes. Many drivers, including seasoned rally mechanics, debate whether adaptive spring suspension or air suspension is softer. However, in real-world tests over speed bumps, the difference was negligible.
The L6 also improves upon the L9 in handling, thanks to its lower height and shorter wheelbase, though it still prioritizes comfort over sporty driving dynamics. Notably, the L6 features a longer seat cushion, which many drivers prefer, and a head-up display that now integrates a camera feed when turning.
While the L6’s electric range is limited, with a 36 kWh battery providing an estimated 215 kilometers on the CLTC cycle, the range drops in colder conditions. The car’s fuel tank, with a capacity of 60 liters, compensates for longer trips. On the highway, fuel consumption averages 7 liters per 100 km in summer, increasing to around 10-11 liters in winter.
Inside, the L6 maintains many high-end features found in more expensive models, including 19 speakers with Dolby Atmos, double glazing, and Napa leather upholstery. The vehicle also offers seat massage, ventilation, and heating for the front row, with ventilation and heating for the rear seats as well.
While the interior design might not appeal to everyone, the L6 focuses on functionality, with a minimalistic dashboard, a panoramic roof, and advanced digital systems powered by the 8295 chipset. The touchscreen interface, similar to iOS, offers a smooth user experience with 3K Samsung displays. However, there are areas where the cost-saving measures are noticeable, such as the plastic door panels and a more basic design for the back seat’s climate control screen.
The trunk is spacious, with a foldable second row for additional storage when needed. The Pro version of the L6, priced lower than the Max, lacks certain premium features like the LiDAR sensors, refrigerator, and luxury sound system, but still offers the same powerful drive and comfort.
For its price, the Lixiang L6 is difficult to match in terms of comfort and features, making it one of the best value-for-money options in today’s market. Despite some minor trade-offs, it provides a luxurious driving experience at a much lower price than competitors, positioning it as a strong contender in the mid-range SUV segment.
