October 3, 2024—Tennessee, USA:- After a decade-long absence, Honda is reintroducing the Civic Hybrid to its North American lineup. This 2025 model not only brings the hybrid powertrain back but does so in a five-door body style for the first time, known as the Civic Hybrid Hatchback. On this sunny day just north of Tennessee, we finally had the chance to test out the sport touring version of this eagerly awaited model.
With Honda’s goal of electrifying its entire US lineup, the new Civic Hybrid is aimed at combining power with fuel efficiency. The 2025 Civic Hybrid receives a light refresh, and while it maintains its sporty appeal, the real excitement lies under the hood. Powered by Honda’s latest two-motor hybrid system, the car combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine with two electric motors. Together, they produce 200 horsepower, making it the most powerful non-Type R Civic in the lineup.

Honda claims an impressive fuel economy of 50 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway for the hatchback version. The sedan performs even better on the highway, boasting up to 47 mpg. Despite its 3,300-pound weight, the Civic Hybrid remains fuel-efficient, with a driving range of nearly 600 miles on a full tank.
In terms of design, the new Civic Hybrid features subtle exterior changes, like a slightly larger honeycomb grille and a new color option called Sandune Pearl, which adds a unique touch to its appearance. It also comes with full LED headlights, but no fog lights. The rear design is almost identical to previous models, with the only significant difference being the absence of exhaust tips.

Inside, Honda keeps the changes minimal but effective. The cabin is equipped with a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, available on the sport touring trim. While the interior remains practical and spacious, some areas, like the lack of ventilated seats and rear air vents, leave room for improvement. Still, Honda has ensured comfort, offering heated seats, a wireless phone charger, and more than enough cargo space—24.1 cubic feet, expandable by folding down the rear seats.
For buyers seeking a powerful and efficient hybrid without compromising the Civic’s iconic sporty character, the 2025 Civic Hybrid presents a strong case, although it falls short of offering all-wheel drive.
