Shenzhen, China, September 9, 2024 – BYD has introduced an updated version of its flagship Han sedan, originally launched in 2020. Despite a 9.6% drop in year-to-date sales, totaling 111,075 units, BYD has sold more than 800,000 units since the model’s debut. The 2025 update brings both enhancements and price reductions, with the hybrid version starting at $23,000 and the all-electric model at $25,000, making the Han more competitive in the market.
Visually, the 2025 Han maintains its familiar design, with the primary new addition being an optional roof-mounted LiDAR. Both hybrid (DM-i) and electric (EV) models now share the same styling, a departure from previous versions where the hybrid sported a distinct grille. The sedan’s dimensions remain unchanged, with a length of 4995 mm, width of 1910 mm, height of 1495 mm, and a wheelbase of 2920 mm. New 18- and 19-inch wheels and a stylish gray exterior color give the updated Han a modern edge. The car’s aerodynamic drag coefficient stands at 0.23, and its curb weight ranges between 1920 kg for the hybrid and up to 2100 kg for the electric versions.
In a major shift, all 2025 BYD Han models will now feature front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive no longer an option. The hybrid version introduces BYD’s fifth-generation DM powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 115 hp and 225 Nm of torque with an electric motor outputting 272 hp and 315 Nm. This combination allows the hybrid Han to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h. An 18.3 kWh battery offers a range of 125 km on electric power alone, while combined fuel consumption is an impressive 3.8 l/100 km, giving the vehicle a total range of 1,350 km.
The all-electric versions also offer front-wheel drive, with power outputs ranging from 204 hp to 245 hp depending on the configuration. The 0-100 km/h time is 7.9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 185 km/h. Battery options include capacities of 60, 72, and 85 kWh, providing a driving range between 506 km and 701 km on a single charge, as per the Chinese CLTC cycle. A fast-charging function allows the battery to charge to 80% in 30 minutes.
Underneath the sleek design, the 2025 Han features an upgraded chassis. The top-tier trim levels are equipped with BYD’s Disus-C intelligent damping control system, enhancing ride comfort by adjusting to road conditions in real time. The system also improves stability during rapid acceleration, braking, or directional changes.
Inside, the updated Han’s cabin has received several technological upgrades. A 15.6-inch multimedia screen with 2.5K resolution now supports voice commands and 3D navigation. A premium Dynaudio audio system with 12 speakers and a 10-point massage function for the front seats adds luxury to the driving experience. Ambient lighting and customizable seat settings, paired with a signature air aroma system, contribute to a refined atmosphere.
In terms of safety, the new Han is equipped with nine airbags, including driver knee protection and curtain airbags. Its reinforced chassis is built with 41 hot-formed steel parts, 80% of which are high-strength steel. The advanced DiPilot 300 intelligent driving system, powered by 31 sensors, cameras, and an Orin X chip, ensures enhanced safety features such as high-speed piloting and precise navigation.
Pricing for the hybrid version in China ranges from $23,000 to $31,700, while the all-electric version starts at $25,000 and goes up to $33,000 depending on the trim level. The new BYD Han promises to deliver an upgraded driving experience, combining performance, safety, and comfort at competitive prices.
