Changan’s electric vehicle brand, Deeple, is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market with the upcoming launch of the Deeple S05. Recently spotted on Chinese streets, the S05 has generated considerable buzz as it gears up for an official debut, potentially as early as September.
Deeple, under the well-established Changan umbrella, aims to appeal to both pure electric and range extender vehicle enthusiasts with this new model. The spy shots reveal that the Deeple S05 features a modern and stylish design, highlighted by 18- to 20-inch aluminum alloy rims in various shapes. Design elements such as frameless doors, hidden door handles, slender headlights, and a closed front face contribute to its sleek and futuristic appearance. Consumers will have a variety of color options, including white, black, blue, and gray, allowing for personalization to suit different tastes.
The rear of the Deeple S05 is equally impressive, featuring through-type tail lights, an illuminated logo, and high-mounted brake lights. These design choices not only enhance the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal but also improve visibility and safety. Additionally, the car will offer practical features like a panoramic sunroof and roof luggage racks, catering to consumers who value both style and functionality in their vehicles.
Measuring 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a 2,880 mm wheelbase, the Deeple S05 positions itself as a compact SUV. The Deeple S05 is slightly smaller than its sibling, the Deeple S07, but does not compromise on features and performance.
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has already approved both the pure electric and range extender variants of the Deeple S05. The pure electric variant is equipped with a 175 kW electric motor and a 56.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering a cruising range of 510 km. With a curb weight of 1,720 kg, this variant strikes a balance between power and efficiency, appealing to eco-conscious consumers looking for long-range electric vehicles.
On the other hand, the range extender variant combines a 72 kW 1.5L engine as the range extender with a 160 kW electric motor. This variant offers two battery pack options—17.08 kWh and 28 kWh—providing pure electric ranges of 100 km and 155 km, respectively. With a curb weight of 1,497 kg, the range extender variant is slightly lighter and caters to those who seek flexibility in their driving experience, allowing for extended journeys without frequent recharging.
While official interior images of the Deeple S05 have not yet been revealed, spy photos suggest that the interior will feature mainstream configurations expected in modern vehicles. These include a full LCD instrument panel, a large central control screen, a heads-up display (HUD), and a Level 2 advanced driving assistance system. These features are designed to enhance the driving experience, offering convenience, safety, and connectivity for drivers and passengers alike.
Currently, Deeple has four models on sale: the SL3, S03i, G318, and S07. The brand has demonstrated strong performance, selling 83,858 vehicles in the first half of this year. Deeple’s ambitious 2024 annual sales target is 280,000 vehicles, contributing significantly to Changan’s overall target of 2.8 million vehicles for the year. Other Changan brands also have impressive sales targets, with Changan Qiyuan aiming for 250,000 vehicles and Avatr targeting 990,000 vehicles.
