When power and luxury are combined in a single car, there’s no doubt the driving experience will surpass many top-tier vehicles of this century. A luxury vehicle must be comfortable; otherwise, it cannot truly be considered luxurious. The most powerful cars in the world share specific features that categorize them together: torque, which allows the engine to accelerate faster from a stop, and high horsepower, which enables higher top speeds. Imagine a car that combines both power and luxury while maintaining futuristic characteristics. Introducing the Dong Fang Mhiro 9177, a full-size luxury off-road vehicle with the most rugged styling ever seen on the road.
The exterior design of the Mhiro 9177 is inspired by military-grade automobiles but with a more appealing style. It joins the ranks of top car manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz with its new G-Class, General Motors with their Hummer EV, and the Tesla Cybertruck. Additionally, BYD, China’s number one manufacturer, has entered the competition with its most powerful SUV, the YangWang U8. It’s astonishing to note that even the powerful Tesla Cybertruck, Hummer EV, and the legendary Mercedes G-Wagon are not as powerful as the Dong Fang Mhiro 9177.
The Mhiro 9177 offers two different powertrain options: a fully battery electric vehicle (BEV) and an internal combustion engine variant known as the ER (extended range) electric vehicle. Unlike traditional engines, the internal combustion engine in the EREV variant doesn’t transmit power directly to the wheels. Instead, it functions similarly to a hybrid vehicle by powering the battery, allowing the SUV to travel further without needing frequent refueling or recharging. This design eliminates the need for an external power supply, unlike the fully electric Mhiro 9177.
The Mhiro 9177 also has the ability to crabwalk, synchronizing the rear wheels with the front ones to allow diagonal movement at low speeds up to 10.6 degrees. This feature enables the car to effortlessly navigate off-road trails and maneuver with ease in parking situations. Another fascinating feature is the optional drone pack, which can be controlled through the touchscreen or voice commands from inside the car. The drone can lift lightweight objects and be summoned back to the vehicle.
The Mhiro 9177 is aggressively beautiful, with multiple sharp lines across every part of the body. The bonnet features sharp design elements resembling air intakes, with two prominent triangular ones on the front end of the hood. The sharp LED headlights are crossed at the ends with a long strip drawing attention to the opposite side of the headlamps. The smooth blend of the headlights and the car’s sharp edges showcase the designer’s skill. The parallelogram front grill features a hard metal or steel pattern with the M emblem at the center. The bumpers are incredibly large, providing enhanced protection for occupants during collisions and allowing the car to withstand crash forces with minimal damage.
The impressive styling continues with wide modern dark-colored windows and a thick black roof rack covering the entire roof. The roof rack is expected to be removable for those who prefer a clean SUV for everyday activities rather than off-roading. The side ladder will be very useful for loading large items on top of the car. The vehicle’s impressive weight between 8,246 and 8,381 pounds is supported by 20-inch monstrous tires perfect for all terrains, with other optional sizes available. At the rear, there are three long tail lights: two on both sides and one at the upper part of the boot door. A camera at the top serves as both a reversing camera and part of the 360-degree camera system. The rear windshield’s dark color matches the rectangular storage cover on the boot door.
The ground clearance of the Mhiro 9177 is quite impressive for a full-size luxury SUV. The Mhiro 9177 measures 196 inches in length, 82 inches in width, 76 inches in height, and has a wheelbase of 116 inches. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class cannot compare in all dimensions. The 9177 SUV is 2.8 inches longer, 5.9 inches wider, and 1.3 inches lower than the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Despite its massive size, the 9177 SUV only seats five passengers, providing more room for comfort, which is where luxury steps in.
Before exploring the interior of this luxury off-road SUV, it’s worth noting the distinct Dragon Armor edition of the Mhiro 9177. This edition features unique elements that set it apart from the entry-level 9177 model. This version is a collaboration between the automaker Dong Fang and the movie Operation Red Sea, designed primarily for off-road capabilities. The Mhiro 9177 Armor edition uses a yellowish color referred to by the automaker as Desert Storm military paint. The front of the SUV features a vertical grill that differentiates it from the standard 9177 model. Carbon fiber covers 22.3% of the 9177, including the hood, roof, and side ladder racks. Additional external features include a roof extension platform, a rear spare tire rack with several uses, front and rear metal bumpers, a 12,500-pound motorized winch, and an RV tow bar.
Moving to the interior of the Mhiro 9177, both models feature high-quality luxury materials throughout the cabin. There are several unexpected elements inside the Mhiro 9177 EV and ER. Besides the strong rugged interior design, numerous functional screens help the driver access various controls that are usually far from reach. Another screen keeps front passengers engaged on long journeys. The traditional rearview mirror also functions as a high-definition rearview camera, enhancing visibility with the camera system mentioned earlier. The huge round steering wheel allows the driver to see what is displayed on the 12.3-inch instrument panel, including speed warnings, driving range, and more. The next display is a larger 15.6-inch central touchscreen for maps, a 360-degree camera system, audio, video, ambient light control, voice assistant, vehicle settings, dash cam, and more. The third screen on the dashboard in front of the passenger is a 12.3-inch panel for entertainment. Air vents are positioned on both sides of the dashboard, with two more below the central touchscreen alongside sets of buttons. On the center console, you’ll find an enclosed wireless phone charging pad with USB ports, followed by a large gear shifter and a drive mode selector which adapts to various terrains. The drive modes include snow, comfort, wading, mud, sand, and rock, each changing how the vehicle responds to the road. Enclosed cup holders and a wide, deep storage compartment complete the center console area of the SUV.
The interior features a variety of materials from Nappa leather seats to a suede headliner, with optional upgrades to carbon fiber and wood grain material. Back seat passengers are also treated to luxury. The mid-seat can be dropped down to access two cup holders and a large touchscreen for seat adjustments, heating and cooling, and opening the panoramic glass sunroof. The touchscreen allows passengers to make these adjustments without manually adjusting each seat. The cargo space is ample, accommodating large items thanks to the height and width of its body structure.
Now let’s talk about the performance of this beast. The Mhiro 9177 boasts incredible power, especially in the electric vehicle model, which delivers one of the quickest accelerations from 0 to 62 mph in just 4 seconds. The battery electric vehicle variant of the 9177 features four electric motors, one on each wheel, producing 264 horsepower each for a combined total of 1,056 horsepower. This power is almost double that of the Tesla Cybertruck and more than twice the horsepower of two Mercedes G-Class vehicles combined. The only vehicle that comes close is the BYD YangWang U8, which delivers 1,200 horsepower. The Mhiro 9177 EV is equipped with a 142 kWh ternary lithium battery pack that provides a range of 314 miles on a single charge. The car can be charged with a 100 kW DC fast charger, reaching 80% charge in just 47 minutes. The CATL battery is designed to withstand harsh conditions and temperatures ranging from -30°C to 55°C. It is protected by an 8mm thick aluminum plate and ceramic insulation, ensuring outstanding toughness and dependability in every setting.
The extended range electric vehicle (ER) version of the Mhiro 9177 can go further, achieving 641 miles on a full battery charge and a full tank of fuel. This is made possible by a 1.5L inline-4 turbocharged petrol engine, which acts as a generator producing 194 horsepower. The three electric motors, one on the front and two on the rear, generate a combined 805 horsepower. The Dong Fang Mhiro 9177 starts at $87,500 for the base trim and goes up to $119,600 for the fully loaded Armor edition. Although the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is not as powerful as the Mhiro 9177, it is far more expensive. This price range places the Mhiro 9177 in a competitive space with the Tesla Cybertruck, BYD YangWang U8, and GM Hummer EV. All these powerful luxury off-road vehicles are already available for buyers worldwide. In a few years, one of them will likely take the lead. Which one do you think it will be?
