Is This the Electric Activa? Honda’s New Scooter Might Not Be What India Expected

Honda has been developing an electric scooter for India, and while many anticipate it might be the electric Activa, there are signs suggesting otherwise. Recently launched in Europe, the Honda CUV electric scooter has sparked interest with its features and specs, but it may not fully align with Indian buyers’ expectations for the Activa’s iconic convenience.

The Honda CUV packs a motor producing 90 Nm of torque and offers a range of around 48 km on a single charge. The scooter is equipped with two removable battery packs, each weighing approximately 10 kg, which can be fully recharged in six hours. A user-friendly TFT screen is included, operable through a toggle switch, adding to the scooter’s sleek and modern appeal.

One significant reason this model might not be the Activa electric lies in its design: it lacks a storage compartment, a feature that Indian consumers often prioritize. In contrast, users looking for storage on the Honda CUV would need to install a top box or similar accessory. Additionally, while the top speed of about 82-83 km/h is sufficient for city rides, the scooter’s limited floor space might be uncomfortable for taller riders, though shorter riders should have no trouble reaching the ground easily.

This scooter may introduce certain technological elements to Honda’s potential Indian e-scooter, yet it seems unlikely to be a one-for-one adaptation of the Activa.
