Maruti Suzuki is set to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its upcoming model, the Maruti EVX. Positioned at an aggressive price range of ₹18 lakh to ₹24 lakh, this electric car is poised to be a strong contender in its segment.
Design and Specifications
The EVX is currently in its concept stage, with about 80-90% of its design finalized. The front of the car features the distinctive Suzuki badging and a unique lighting pattern, though the production version may see slight modifications. Notably, the EVX lacks a traditional grille, emphasizing its futuristic design. The fog lamps are positioned lower on the front fascia, enhancing its modern look.
From the side, the EVX measures 4.3 meters in length, comparable to the Hyundai Creta, but priced closer to the Tata Nexon. This makes it a competitive option in the market. The car’s wheelbase promises ample interior space, complemented by a 60 kWh battery offering an impressive range of approximately 500 kilometers. In real-world conditions, a range of 400 kilometers is anticipated, which would be a significant achievement.
The concept model features large tires, primarily for aesthetic purposes. The production model is expected to have more practical tire sizes to maintain optimal range. The alloy wheels are designed for aerodynamic efficiency, further contributing to the EVX’s futuristic appeal.
Interior and Features
Inside, the EVX showcases a connected screen setup and a futuristic steering wheel, though the latter might be altered in the final production version. The center console provides substantial storage space, thanks to the dedicated EV platform. The seats in the concept model boast a unique color theme likely to be carried over to the production version.
The door panels exhibit modern design elements, aligning with Maruti’s push towards a more futuristic aesthetic. The interior materials are eco-friendly, underscoring Maruti’s commitment to sustainability. The panoramic sunroof is a confirmed feature, adding to the car’s premium feel.
Production and Launch
The Maruti EVX is built on a new platform specifically designed for electric vehicles, marking Maruti’s first foray into dedicated EV design. Toyota is also expected to release a rebadged version of this car. The EVX will feature BYD’s blade cells, known for their efficiency, and will be manufactured in India, including the battery cells, to keep costs down.
Maruti plans to launch the EVX in the first quarter of next year, pending the finalization of software testing. The car will be produced in India and exported globally, leveraging Maruti’s extensive network to ensure widespread availability.
