Meet the Voyah ‘Soulmate’: The Jaw-Dropping Electric SUV That’s Set to Redefine the Market

Voyah has introduced its latest compact electric SUV, known in Chinese as the “Jurin,” which can be translated as “best friend” or “soulmate.” While “soulmate” is not the official English name, it aptly reflects the vehicle’s intended connection with its owner. As we await its market release later this year, let’s explore what makes this vehicle stand out.

Design and Features The Voyah Soulmate is a striking blend of SUV and wagon design, reminiscent of competitors like the BYD Song L. The front end features swooping daytime running lights (DRLs) that meet at the Voyah logo, which is inspired by the mythical Chinese bird, the Roca. The air inlets on the hood, reminiscent of the Jaguar I-Pace, add a sporty flair to this family SUV.

Voyah has infused its logo throughout the vehicle, including in the upper light clusters and the 20-inch low-drag wheels. The overall shape is a sleek combination of wagon and SUV, with a coupe-like roofline. One of the unique design elements is the sculpted side profile, which flows into the rear wheel arches. However, the “Intelligent 5G” badge on the pre-production model feels out of place and unnecessary.

At the rear, the Soulmate boasts dual diffusers for reduced air resistance and a set of OLED taillights featuring 66 individual units that perform a light show when parked. Voyah claims the design mimics the exhaust of a rocket, a theme that is subtly echoed throughout the vehicle.

Interior and Technology Opening the frameless doors of the Soulmate reveals a modern, buttonless interior. The centerpiece is a 15.05-inch curved touchscreen, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor. This screen can move towards the passenger seat, making it an ideal spot for entertainment during charging sessions.

The interior also includes a 50W wireless charging port, deep storage spaces, and a slim 5-inch instrument cluster that serves as a backup to the augmented reality heads-up display. The materials used in the cabin, including a micro-suede headliner, suggest a premium feel, though final judgments will be reserved until the production model is available.

The rear seats offer ample legroom and headroom, despite the sloping roofline. The rear also features a sophisticated armrest with a cup holder and phone storage, as well as a uniquely designed air outlet. However, the lack of individual air outlet controls for rear passengers might be a drawback for some.

Performance and Battery While specific details about the motors are not yet available, we do know that the Voyah Soulmate will offer an impressive range of up to 901 kilometers on the Chinese CLTC cycle, thanks to its large 109 kWh battery pack. A more modest 79 kWh battery option will provide 650 kilometers of range.

The vehicle supports an 800-volt charging architecture, allowing it to charge from 20% to 80% in just 10 minutes, with a peak charging power of 400 kW. Voyah claims this enables the vehicle to add 515 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.

Looking Ahead As the Voyah Soulmate prepares for its market debut in late 2024, the anticipation is building for a full test drive. This compact electric SUV, with its innovative design and impressive features, is set to make a significant impact in the EV market. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to its release.
