In a significant move towards urban mobility, Nissan will start selling Silence EVs in the UK from October 2024. This shift reflects a growing trend in many cities across Asia and Europe, where smaller, more efficient vehicles are becoming the preferred choice over large, gas-guzzling SUVs.
Nissan has partnered with Spanish mobility specialist Silence to launch a new range of micromobility vehicles in the UK. This initiative is part of Nissan’s “The Arc” strategy, which aims to develop strategic partnerships and explore future mobility solutions. As part of this strategy, Nissan plans to introduce 11 new electric models in the near future, all designed to meet the evolving needs of urban transportation.
Gareth Dunmore, Managing Director of EICR Mobility at Nissan AMIO, commented on the expansion of the partnership with Silence, stating, “By opening access to Silence’s diverse range of alternative products, we are easing the EV transition by combining clean mobility with cutting-edge technology in functional and flexible vehicles.”
Silence currently offers four vehicles in its portfolio, including three electric two-wheelers and one electric microcar. The S01 and S01 Plus are commuter electric scooters designed for daily use, while the S02 features a rear luggage rack and a trolley-type removable battery for more utilitarian purposes. The S04, Silence’s only four-wheeler, is a tiny electric car that competes with the Citroën Ami. Despite being dwarfed by larger vehicles, the S04 is expected to be a nimble and practical choice for city dwellers, especially in densely populated European cities with narrow roads.
The shift towards micromobility is gaining traction across Europe, with many people opting for smaller, more sustainable, and practical means of transportation. Electric two-wheelers and small electric cars are becoming increasingly common on the roads, indicating a clear trend towards greener technology.
