September 14, 2024 – São Paulo, Brazil:- BYD, the renowned Chinese manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has made another significant move in the South American market with the launch of the Yuan Pro in Brazil. Unveiled on September 5th, the compact all-electric SUV, also known as the Yuan UP in China, marks BYD’s 11th model to be introduced in the country, further solidifying the company’s growing presence in the region.
The Yuan Pro is being positioned as an affordable option for young Brazilians eager to transition to sustainable transportation. With a starting price of 82,800 Brazilian reais (approximately $2,530), the vehicle offers a New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) range of up to 380 km on a single charge. The SUV is built on BYD’s cutting-edge platform 3.0, which optimizes the vehicle’s performance and efficiency. It measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, providing a comfortable and spacious driving experience for both driver and passengers.

BYD’s expansion in Brazil comes as the country witnesses a rising demand for electric vehicles (EVs), driven by increased consumer awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of electric mobility. The Yuan Pro is expected to be the first electric vehicle for many young Brazilians, appealing to a demographic increasingly interested in eco-friendly transportation options.
Originally launched in China on March 26, 2024, with a starting price of 96,000 renminbi (approximately $3,610), the Yuan Pro is also a cost-effective choice in its home market. BYD’s strategy in Brazil aligns with its global expansion efforts, with the company having ranked eighth in the world by vehicle sales in the first half of 2024.
In addition to the launch of the Yuan Pro, BYD has been expanding its retail and manufacturing presence across Brazil. On May 23, 2024, the company opened its 100th dealership in the country, with plans to increase that number to 250 by the end of the year. This expansion underscores BYD’s commitment to making electric vehicles more accessible to Brazilian consumers while building a robust sales and service network.

BYD is also investing heavily in local production facilities to support its long-term growth in the region. On July 4, 2023, BYD, in partnership with the government of the state of Bahia, announced plans to establish a large manufacturing complex consisting of three plants. This industrial site will include a production plant for electric bus and truck chassis, a new energy passenger vehicle production plant, and a facility for processing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials crucial for EV production. The new energy passenger vehicle production line is expected to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units, capable of manufacturing both pure electric models and plug-in hybrids.
This move is expected to not only support BYD’s growth in Brazil but also contribute to the country’s clean energy initiatives and efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The new manufacturing site is poised to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in Brazil and across Latin America.
